How Much To Repair Dent On Car Roof
Some mouth-breathing imbecile apparently decided information technology would be a good idea to WALK ON MY CAR!!!! over the weekend. I came out yesterday morning to run some errands, and got in the machine without noticing. My offset sign that something was wrong was when I pulled out and a pool of h2o rushed off the back of the motorcar. Then, I tried to open the sun roof--no dice. Ruh-roh. Behold the amercement:
And if you look closely, you can just make out the footprint of the culprit--a Converse Chuck Taylor, by the await of it:
The constabulary came and took a report, merely realistically, there's no way they're going to catch the jerk who did it. I was thinking about selling/trading in my machine soon--there goes my resale value! I guess we'll see what the insurance adjuster comes dorsum with. The automobile is 10 years former and the bluebook is around $5,000. Anyone know how much information technology costs to gear up a dented roof and hood?

Are there any creases in the dents? If non, you may be able to remove the headliner and just popular everything support from the inside. Not certain if this would work or not, just it's worth a shot. |
I'chiliad certainly no skillful, but that looks like something that can just be popped out. Heck, have y'all tried getting into the car, bracing your dorsum against the seat, and pushing up with your anxiety on the roof of the car? |
Sit down in drivers seat, await up ... punch it back out ... dents add together character. |
Look, I merely tin can't empathize with someone who inlines multiple ane,936px × 2,592px images. Mostly because they're too large for me to see what's incorrect. |
Sorry to see this. That's a Passat correct? Maybe I've got you or the car mixed up with someone else, just I feel similar I've known that machine since "birth". I'm thinking nosotros both got our Passats around the same time, and that I remember your nick from the vwvortex forums. |
Are you sure there wasn't some life and expiry situation involving the hunt of an international spy by a local reluctantly defenseless upwardly in events beyond his ken that resulted in a chase that took them over the top of several vehicles just all for the greater adept of truth, justice, and the American Way? Perhaps you should exist grateful instead? |
Those are the biggest dents I accept always seen! In similar news, someone stole my 12" Bengals magnet off my motorcar Saturday. Ruined my solar day. RIP

If it is the right kind of headliner, you may not even demand to remove it, you lot may just be able to pop information technology back in past hand, with no tools. Metal has a memory, so you should be able to pop information technology back out. Yous would be better off if y'all had discovered it sooner, but you should still be fine. |

Sad--I'll try to resize in a scrap. I thought the IMG tag automatically resized them based on the width of your browser window. Only exist glad I reduced the file size from 2MB each to ~500K. I don't post oftentimes on vwvortex, but I do use the same nick there. This was my first (and possibly only) e'er new car, though I've been toying with the thought of trading upwardly to a new or CPO A4 recently... http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1119445. thekaj wrote: I'm certainly no expert, only that looks like something that tin can just exist popped out. That would exist great, just I nevertheless want to take the insurance adjuster wait at information technology and get an estimate. Our deductible is $250, but I've worked to hard to keep the car looking skilful to bulldoze around with a huge dent in the roof. |

On the brilliant side, in that location'south some other Bengals fan! |
I think I know who did information technology
|
From the pics I don't retrieve it should exist too tough to ready. It does not wait similar they will have to exercise much other than pull the paring out. I could count it lucky they did not crack a window or bed the frame on the sunroof. I don't work on cars, But I did stay in a vacation inn express final night |

Sorry for your loss, but meh. That looks hideous anyway. |
Wasn't me. I only do luxury vehicles.
(All the dents popped out. Serves them right for giving me a "luxury vehicle" when I asked for a convertible. And charge me for such as "that is all we have".) |

Eh? |

I though you but did luxury vehicles. |
Human, that is so fucked upward. |

I though you only did luxury vehicles. Sorry. "Luxury Vehicles" I didn't classify it. I would have classified it every bit "Hoopty" (and did many times going over Saddle Road on Hawaii). |
At to the lowest degree they didn't write something in the dew with their finger. The pictures aren't showing up for me, but with a sunroof I doubt you will exist able to just pop it out from the inside and not have any problems. I would retrieve you would take some leaking bug after yous pop information technology out. You might get lucky though and I doubt you lot could make it worse. I'd almost be willing to bet they total the thing. |
The insurance adjuster came past to look at the auto yesterday. The verdict: he thinks the roof tin can be popped dorsum out. Allstate is paying to repair the dents on the hood and roof, replace the headliner, repair the sunroof if necessary, and to repaint the front fenders, rear quarterpanels, roof, hood, and body. The full approximate comes out to $2167, which afterwards our deductible comes out to $1917. I'k going to make an appointment to drop it off at the torso shop next calendar week and have the work done--while I'thou at it, I may get a side estimate to replace the door trim (cracked in a few places) and to repaint the rear bumper. If it's not too much, information technology may assistance with the resale/merchandise-in value. I'm now torn about whether to buy a new automobile, purchase a CPO, or hold on to the Passat a bit longer. Equally I posted in the linked thread in a higher place, I've been eyeing the Audi A4, and my married woman has given me the ok to pull the trigger. Another complicating factor, every bit I posted (http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1111343), is that we may be moving from Washington to LA in the near time to come. And then, I have to decide whether to purchase here, or subsequently we (possibly) move. The sales revenue enhancement is definitely cheaper in Virginia, but from what I empathize, I may have to pay employ tax even if I buy the machine in VA while still living here, pay tax here, and subsequently move it to California. If I go a credit for the VA tax against the California tax, I gauge information technology would be a wash. Decisions, decisions... |

My buddy gave me a decal just similar that yesterday! What a coincidence ... |
How many miles do you take on it and how much do you lot owe? Those would exist considerations I would take into business relationship. Not sure if the incident with the a**holes walking on the roof & hood is something I would take into account regarding selling vs buying, seeing as the dents will popular out and the insurance will make you whole. I liked my Passat very much and simply upsized to the Touareg mainly as I e'er needed towing capability and was comfortable staying with a VW. It's this sort of affair that makes me want to have a stick a of some sort on my garage (which is as well full to have my vehicle and the doors can't open). |

That'south very unusual..... |
I had a similar experience virtually two years ago. I was in my apartment watching a movie and wearing headphones, while some inebriated waste of oxygen was exterior jumping upward and down on my car roof. I institute out the adjacent forenoon when I looked out my window, and something looked strange about my roof. I talked to my neighbors, who told me what had happened. The machine in question is a 93 Mazda protege, then I just got in and pushed the roof back out with my legs rather than paying my insurance deductible. The roof is yet kinda wavy, and once in a while I bang out a few dents with my hand if I am feeling motivated. I'm actually kind of glad I was wearing my headphones when information technology happened, because it probably saved me from set on charges. Another part of me wishes I'd had the chance to at least ID the guy and take him charged, if not bash his olfactory organ in. I feel your pain, douche bags are all effectually usa. |

It has around 75K miles and is paid off. I would gladly drive information technology for some other year or two, just maintenance costs have been adding upwardly the last few years; since information technology bluebooks for around $5, information technology's not worth putting in much more than coin than I already take. |
